Editor's Review

This is a short CD with a bargain price to match, but it's the genuine article and quite enjoyable. All but the first two tracks (the vocal-only carol medleys) come directly from the 1957 LP of the same name. I don't currently know the origin of those two medleys.

Alternate (and equally legitimate Lawrence Welk) versions of "Merry Christmas from Our House to Your House" (this version is by the Lennon Sisters), "Ring Those Christmas Bells", "Silver Bells", and "Sleigh Ride" are readily available on the other Welk Christmas CDs. Those versions came from the Reader's Digest 4 LP set that was issued in 1970. However, "The Christmas Song", "The Christmas Waltz", "Jingle Bells", and "Santa Claus is Here Again" (again by the Lennon Sisters) are only readily available on CD here.

Missing from the 1957 LP are "Let's Have an Old Fashioned Christmas" and "Santa from Santa Fe", and the LP has instrumental carol medleys instead of the vocal-only medleys here. Hopefully those cuts will eventually make their way onto CD.

Given that every recording on this disc is exclusively available on CD here and that 4 of the songs aren't available elsewhere in ANY version on CD (I'm not including hard-to-find imports), I consider this CD a must-have, and it's very enjoyable top to bottom. That said, it isn't the best starting point for Lawrence Welk Christmas music on CD. For that, go with "22 Merry Christmas Favorites" and "Christmas Memories". Then get this to round out your collection until Ranwood eventually has every Christmas song ever recorded by Lawrence Welk available on CD.
