Album Notes
The following text is from the CD liner notes:
It's a fairy tale holiday, featuring sentimental winter season songs from the
Golden Era's brightest stars. From Mel Torme's perennial favorite "The
Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)" to lighthearted gems
like Bob Chester's "Here Comes the Fattest Man in Town", this
one-of-a-kind collection of vintage recordings includes many previously
unreleased holiday tunes along with the most classic and beloved standards of
all time. Back to Top
This is really quite a nice surprise of a CD. To my knowledge, the two
Lawrence Welk tunes are unavailable anywhere else on CD, and perhaps even on LP.
There are quite a few other gems to be found by the likes of Mel Torme, The
Modernaires, Kay Starr, The Ewing Sisters, Frankie Laine, and more from somewhat
lesser-known artists of the Golden Era. Even if you aren't familiar with most of
these recordings, this CD will nonetheless take you back to a simpler time while
providing plenty of holiday cheer. There's a slight let-down in momentum toward
the end of the disc, but I recommend it nonetheless. Back to Top
